There are several actions that can be taken to help fight against human trafficking. Anything from learning more about the issue to donating money to further the cause can be useful.

Be Aware

Awareness works. When someone becomes aware of human trafficking, it weakens the strength that the industry has. One of the reasons human trafficking and can flourish is because people do not realize that it is happening, and when they do know, they can’t figure out how to fight it. That is why one of Meet Justice’s main goals is to raise awareness. Human trafficking is out there, even in the streets of Atlanta, Georgia. Raising awareness brings those in the fight one step closer to ending human trafficking once and for all, and to saving the victims of this crime.

What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking is the overarching term used to describe the coercion of others into forced labor or sexual exploitation. It can involve enslaving someone under the pretense of having to pay off a debt, threatening someone into working for free, or even coercing someone into performing sexual acts. Meet Justice is focused on raising awareness of all forms of human trafficking.

Is It Really a Problem in Atlanta?

In a word, yes. In CSEC (the commercial exploitation of children) alone, nearly 500 girls are trafficked through Atlanta, GA every month. The average age of these girls ranges between 11-13 years old. A study in 2009 showed that about 129 children are raped for profit about 15 times each every Thursday through Saturday night in Georgia. This means that approximately every 54 seconds there is a child in Georgia being raped for profit. The highest concentration of men seeking children for pleasure were found outside of the Atlanta perimeter, proving that this is not just some inner-city problem, but something that effects every area of Georgia. Add to these numbers those who are being trafficked for labor, and you can see that this is indeed an issue in Atlanta.  Human trafficking exists, it’s here, and it is flourishing.

Volunteer

There are several events and organizations that need help throughout the year. One of the most actively involved ways someone can participate in the fight against human trafficking and CSEC is to volunteer time in assisting in any one of these areas.
